This week, many Nigerians are visiting social media and online newspapers to be among the first to see the ministerial list.
Some are hoping for their ex-class or schoolmate, town person, family member or friend, former neighbour, childhood friend, political mentor, etc., to make the list.
When that happens, they can celebrate because it will be their turn to ‘chop’.
The rest of the citizens are looking for Buhari’s lineup of magicians who will bring out their magic wand and suddenly, all our national challenges will be wiped out.
Let me remind us as we approach our national 55th birthday, NO NATION HAS BEEN BUILT SOLELY BY THE EFFORT OF HER GOVERNMENT. Even monarchies relied on numerous citizens generating and implementing solutions, and to challenge it to ensure a fair and just society.
For example, Buhari or his cabinet can only stabilise and increase electricity supply but the solutions to where we generate electricity for the next 20-40 years (when we will be over 200 million people) can only come from citizens with God-given talent. That talent has to be put to use now.
Another example, Buhari and his Education Minister can increase funding to the educational sector and seek to enforce discipline but it is citizens who will generate and implement the curriculum that will train and equip our next generations to compete in the global village the world has now become.
It is citizens who will hold government to account, change mindset, adopt the nation-building values and give themselves sacrificially to build a developed Nigeria.
A bad government needs citizen participation to stop the impunity and a good government needs citizen participation to accelerate the implementation of her good programmes, and to fight corruption.
EITHER WAY, YOU ARE NEEDED TO BUILD A DEVELOPED NIGERIA.
ARISE AND BUILD YOUR COUNTRY
